Iliza Shlesinger hosts Truth & Iliza on stage with stickers that say "woke" and butterscotch brownies closing out episode 2, "How do you get woke?"

Iliza Shlesinger introduces her guest on the second episode of Truth & Iliza on Freeform Tuesdays at 10

The network Freeform is coming into its own just over a year into the rebrand from ABC Family.  They do their upfronts in April so I am already looking forward to “Siren,” the mermaid drama coming Summer 2018 (really!) alongside a Marvel team effort led by Squirrel Girl (REALLY)!

In the meantime I am enjoying life right now with “Truth & Iliza,” a 10pm weekly talk show with Iliza Shlesinger.  I’ve been a fan of hers since “Excused” and, if I can toot my own horn here, flagged her name to a production company that I worked at as upcoming talent several years ago.  She has been a touring comedian for years and now has several specials under her belt.

Freeform was right to give her a weekly talk show and has done a great job with their iteration.  It takes elements from traditional structure – cold open, desk, guests.  But your Ed McMahon/Hank Kingsley/Jon Batiste is now a guest of the week that she might have met at the bar – and if the first two episodes are any indication, it’s a really great neighborhood gay bar.
