Stutz

The documentary “Stutz” by Jonah Hill premiered on Netflix November 14, 2022. In it, Jonah presents the life’s work of his therapist, Phil Stutz.

Jonah Hill and Dr. Stutz did a fantastic job together on this film.
At one point Dr. Stutz feels the need to do pushups, and it’s decided a dolly is the best option.
First, a grip demonstrates on the locked dolly.
Jonah Hill joins in on the fun, calling it the most expensive pushup ever taken.
Besides the dolly, spacelights, stirrups and frames are also visible in front of the green screen cyc.
The documentary uses green screen in extremely creative ways.

Dr. Stutz has one rule: you are not allowed to tell yourself anything negative. You can’t put yourself through that.

His other findings throughout the film include:
Radical acceptance to answer anxiety
No longer judging reality by the last 5 minutes
“Assume that you’re underestimating others.”
Meaning comes from small things – all events have value.
“Every time I get crushed, I seem to get more information.”
Squeeze the juice out of the lemon: you have will and faith that something there is valuable.
Gratefulness – name it, feel it. Let it wash over you. It’s the state that breaks through the clouds.

Jonah’s contribution: No one person, place, or thing leaving you can completely take away your own existence and your sense of wholeness.

Therapy is a beautiful thing!
